Overview
I designed a storage system that simplifies meal prep and keeps ingredients fresh longer to eliminate household food waste
This project started from a personal pain point: seeing fresh ingredients go to waste simply because they weren't stored properly.
Problem
Roughly 21% of food purchased by consumers is wasted.
Roughly 50% of household waste is due to poor food management, over-portioning, and food spoilage.
An average family of four throws away roughly $1,600 worth of produce per year
The average American throws out $690 worth of food at home annually.
Solution
I designed a food storage container that helps store fresh herbs, while also allowing for easy use and cleaning.

Product demo
Easy refrigerator access
Disassemble for easy cleaning
Research
I identified current storage methods and uncovered pain points of fresh herb storage systems.

Defining the problem and user
The target users are people who cook from home who need an easy to use, sustainable, and cost-saving storage solution.

Ideation and iteration
I explored solutions with sketches of different storage solution mechanics.

Prototype and user testing
I tested 4 prototypes with 7 different users to access the ease of use of each solution and iterated accordingly.

Execution
I 3d modeled the inside inserts using solidworks, then 3d printed it.
I then used a plastic container I found at a kitchenware store as the container shell and repurposed it to create the final product.
